ArdPark facilities are equipped with a rock enclosed ring where all campfires must be contained. Guests are asked to refrain from tossing glass, aluminum, plastic and other non-burnable items into the campfire pits. Your security deposit will be forfeited if we have to spend time removing your non-burnable trash from the fire pits. Forest fires are always a serious concern. Guests must exercise common sense good judgment when choosing to enjoy a campfire. The size of your campfire should be proportionate to the weather conditions. Consideration should particularly be given to windy and dry weather. The All American and The Pines are equipped with a water spigot and garden hose conveniently located near the campfire ring. The Courtois Cabana does not have running water on site so guests should use extra caution with fire there, including having a bucket or two of river water nearby if necessary. |
Gather it... There is often lots of dead wood on the ground at the All American, The Pines and the Courtois Cabana. Guests are welcome to gather any dead wood found on the ground at ArdPark for their campfires. If you think you might collect sizeable wood from the ground, you may want to consider packing along a wheelbarrow or wagon. Under no circumstance is anyone permitted to cut down any standing timber regardless of whether it is dead or alive. Use of chain saws, axes, hatchets and the like is strictly prohibited. A permit is required to gather firewood from national forest land so guests should be sure they are removing wood from ArdPark property and not the national forest unless they have a permit to do so. Buy it from ArdPark... You can order wood from us when making your reservation and be assured that it will be dry and neatly stacked near the campfire pit when you arrive. We provide a nice variety of sizes of wood including some kindling and usually at least one bigger log. If you're uncertain about your wood needs when your reservation is made, you will have an opportunity to purchase it when you arrive. Buy it from independent sellers along the way... If you are traveling through Steelville to reach ArdPark you will find several individuals with roadside stands selling wood along Highway 8. Bring it... Guests can bring wood with them if they are Missouri residents and can attest that the wood was obtained in Missouri. The Missouri Department of Conservation strongly recommends against importation of wood from unknown origins due to the on-going threat of the gypsy moth and other unwanted tree-killing insects. |
